Dirndl Hairstyling for Oktoberfest with an Authentic Bavarian Touch

Hairstyling is the final yet most important step in amplifying the dirndl outfit. A change in hairstyle can transform an understated look into a voguish one. The lookbooks for hairdos to wear with the dirndl are full of surprises, with Dutch braids crowned into a bun being the most prevalent hairstyle for the traditional look. To create a transitional look, a front braid with the rest of the hair open and straight hair accessorized with a sleek modern look, infusing a contemporary charm.

Iris Apfel quoted, “If your hair is done properly and you're wearing good shoes, you can get away with anything.”

All the Dirndl Hairstyling Ideas

This article will be divided into two parts. The first half will discuss all the hairstyles for the long hair for Wiesn 2024, and the second half will cover the short dirndl hairdos.

Part 1: Dirndl Hairstyle for Long Hairs

The list of long hairstyles is elaborate, and many traditional and modern easy hair looks can be created to finish off dirndl dressing.

Traditional Dutch Crown Braided Bun

Comb your hair to make it tangle-free, and part it down. Start braiding your hair by dividing it into three equal parts. Add hair and place the strand closest to your face underneath the middle strand. Add hair to the strand farthest from the face and place it underneath the middle strand. Keep braiding using the same technique until you reach your ear, switch your hands, and keep going, covering the back of your head until you reach the second ear.

Finish off the braid and tie it down with a clear elastic band. Tug the outside of each part of the braid to make it look fuller. Take the free end of the braid, place it over the head, and secure it with a bobby pin. Place bobby pins around the braid to keep it in place for longer hours. Voila!

Styling Tip: Take a few small strands of hairs from a little around the ears and curl them for a finished look.

  • Things required: Bobby pins, tail comb, and clear elastic.
  • Time: 5 Minutes
  • Dirndl to Wear this Updo: pair this hairdo with ice-blue, maroon, or any vintage dirndl dress.
  • Traditional Fishtail Pigtail Braids

Remember Kim Kardashian's Oktoberfest 2010 appearance in a Maroon dirndl styled with side fishtail braids? Comb your hair to detangle it thoroughly and section it, parting in the center. Take all the hairs away from the face, twist them in behind your ear from both sides and secure them with bobby pins. Take all the free hair on one side, wrap it with a small strand, make a pigtail, secure it with a bobby pin, and repeat it with the hair on the other side.

Start braiding by dividing hair into two sections, taking strands from each side, and crisscrossing them over. Finish off braiding, leaving a few hairs at the end, and secure them with a hair tie. Repeat the same technique on the other side and finish the look by pairing it with your dirndl.

  • Things required: Bobby pins, tail comb, and clear elastic.
  • Time: 5-10 Minutes
  • Dirndl to Wear this Updo: pair this hairdo with any traditional dirndl dress.

Front Dutch Braid with Loose Curls

Style a front Dutch braid with loose curls for a perfect blend of traditional hairstyles with a modern twist. Take a section of hair from whichever ear side you prefer and start braiding by sectioning hairs into three equal strands. Add hair from the face in the strand nearest to the face and move it underneath the middle strand. Add hairs to the strand farthest from the face and cross it from the middle strand. Finish off the braid by moving to the other ear.

Complete the braid until the end and secure it with the hair tie. Hide the free side of the braid in the hair and add soft curls to the free hair on the back of the head. Hair spray generously for curls to stay for the whole day for the Oktoberfest.

Styling Hack: If you are avoiding the heat, use a heatless curling headband to achieve some natural curls and make the front braid later.

  • Things required: Bobby pins, tail comb, Curling tong, and clear elastic.
  • Time: 10-15 Minutes
  • Dirndl to Wear this Updo: pair this hairdo with any modern monochromel dirndl dress.

Effortless Straight Hair

Straightening the hair is the most viable option for a no-effort modern look. Many women, including Emma Watson, choose this sleek, clean, straight hairstyle with a few strands fixed with a bobby pin. What's great about this modern hairstyle is that it looks equally good as the traditional dirndl.

  • Things required: Straightening tool
  • Time: 10-15 Minutes
  • Dirndl to Wear this Updo: Traditional or modern monochromel dirndl dress.

Part 2: Dirndl Hairstyle for Long Hairs

Short hair is no problem, as ample hair options exist for women with a short bob. Anything you wear with your dirndl can achieve traditional or modern hairstyles.

Middle French Braid

Take three strands from the forehead in the middle section of your hair. Add a chunk of hair from the sides to keep the braid in the middle of your head. Make the braid using the same technique mentioned above for the Dutch braid, taking the hairs from each side, adding extreme strands, and crossing over the middle strand. Compete the braid till the half head is almost near the ears and tie it with the hairband.

  • Things required: Hair tie, comb, bobby pins
  • Time: 10 Minutes
  • Dirndl to Wear this Updo: Traditional or modern dirndl dress.

Middle French Braid Bun

Add bobby pins to the hair to convert the above look into a bun. Fluff the ends of the braid and secure them into a center, giving the illusion of a feathered bun.

  • Things required: Hair tie, comb, bobby pins
  • Time: 10-15 Minutes
  • Dirndl to Wear this Updo: Traditional soft-colored dirndl dress.

Accessorizing the Dirndl Hairstyles

A few accessories, like pearl pins added to the braids of a floral headband for an elevated traditional look, can further enhance the appeal of your hairstyle. For a bun, pin a floral vine headpiece. Hair accessories for creating a dirndl look are for anyone with bad hair or rescuing if you have already spent enough time creating a dirndl look.

Wrapping It Up!

Hairstyling lifts the dirndl game to the next level. A Traditional Vintage dirndl or a modern trachten looks beautifully put together with a well-wrapped hairstyle. Long braided buns or braided piggy tails are the ideal choice for traditional hairstyling and modern sleek straight hair look great for creating a contemporary look for Oktoberfest. Accessories are a simple hack that looks astonishing with little to no effort.
